uTILITY P&M

Utility P&M responds to an important opportunity for greater intellectual connection across utility-related research.

Scholarship on essential utility systems is extensive, but different sectors have developed partly through distinct disciplinary traditions and around different substantive questions:

Electricity — economics, regulation, market design, pricing, and reliability
๐Ÿ“ก Broadband & telecommunications — competition, regulation, investment, and access
๐Ÿ’ง Water — governance, institutions, utility management, pricing, and resource management
♻️ Wastewater — engineering, treatment, environmental performance, and resource recovery
๐Ÿงช Hydrogen — technology, engineering, techno-economics, and a growing policy and regulatory literature
๐Ÿ”ฅ Natural gas — energy economics, markets, pipeline regulation, environmental questions, and the energy transition

These differences represent an opportunity as much as a fragmentation.

๐Ÿ›️ Across sectors, utility systems share important institutional characteristics: they provide essential services through capital-intensive network infrastructures subject to substantial public governance and regulation.

Yet concepts, theories, and findings developed within one utility sector do not always travel readily into others.

๐ŸŒ A shared intellectual space can bring these traditions into closer conversation—supporting:

๐Ÿ” comparison across utility systems
๐Ÿงฉ identification of commonalities and important differences
๐Ÿ’ก cross-sector learning and theory development
๐Ÿค greater exchange across disciplinary and substantive boundaries

Utility P&M helps create that space.
