This week, we are pleased to introduce Joshua A. Basseches, Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Environmental Studies at Case Western Reserve University. Joshua studies energy and climate politics and policymaking, with a particular focus on the U.S. states. His interdisciplinary research explores how political institutions, economic interests, and utility-sector structures shape climate and energy policy. We are also excited to celebrate the publication of his new book: 📘 Owning the Green Grid: The Political Economy of Renewable Energy Policy Design, published by The MIT Press. Drawing on legislative and regulatory documents, interviews, and archival evidence, the book examines a quarter century of renewable-electricity policymaking across seven states. It shows why ownership and governance of the electricity grid matter—and how investor-owned utilities help shape the design and politics of renewable-energy policy. The book offers important insights for researchers, policymakers, regulators, advocates, and utility professionals seeking to understand the political economy of the clean-energy transition. Please join us in welcoming Joshua to the Utility Policy & Management community and congratulating him on this important publication! 👤 Learn more about Joshua’s work: https://joshuabasseches.com/ 📖 Explore Owning the Green Grid: https://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262053587/owning-the-green-grid/
